This is a delightful and harmless story from another age. Parts of it put me in mind of W H G Kingston's "Voyage Around The World", bith because of the very Victorian world view, and the fascination with foreign primitive cultures. The language was similiarly victorian, but by no means impenetrable. This book was an easy enough read.Unlike Kingston's work, this book seems to have hidden allegorical depths. And as such it felt almost post modern too! (which of course, it is too old to be! But it just shows there is nothing new under the sun). But even as I was scratching my head, trying to make sense of it all, I read the author's note at the end of the book where he basically admits he himself cannot remember what he was thinking when he wrote this book.
In any case, follow the adventures of a boy who loses himself in the jungle, and then proceeds to lose even the clothes he stands up in, stolen by natives. Read about how he comes to understand these people, finds a mother to love him and then leaves it all behind again.
If you love books, this is an intriguing one. If you only like modern books that completely make sense, then maybe pass this one by.

A Little Boy Lost W H Hudson 9781438532868 Books Reviews
This tale, written in 1905 by an English author living in Argentina, is a fantastic gift for anyone who sees the world with a child's eyes. It is amazing to find a true naturist atmosphere in the story, which is the respect of all living forms, absolute trust in the goodness of people, the full skin contact with nature. The fact that the little boy finds himself without clothes for many days in the wilderness or meeting other people, and doesn't think about its lack anymore, is equally refreshing for today's reader. It is a true chef d'oeuvre which every family must read to their children.
This book has been out there for a long time, but I was interested in the author, interesting type of fantasy
Good quite read challenging our imagination as illustrated from a little boy's perspective.
Good book.
Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Martin, a seven-year-old boy, wanders through a wonderland of birds, flowers and magical adventures. The story is beautifully told, and the images stay sharp in your mind.
I read this, just after reading Neil Gaiman's "Ocean at the end of the lane," and it was a pleasant continuation of the gentle magic I had so much enjoyed.
Those aren't ostriches, not in South America, and I cannot imagine why he didn't die of sunburn, but it's a fairy tale, and I came here to enjoy myself, not to carp and cavil.
